Dotted with ancient, giant baobab trees and boulder-strewn rocky outcrops, Makulu Makete is 4,600 hectares of spectacular African bushveld, which is being restored to its natural state by its owner.
Makulu Makete Wildlife Reserve is situated in Limpopo Province, South Africa, close to the border with Botswana, 25 km west of Alldays on the R572. The Mogalakwena River, a tributary of the Limpopo, meanders for 13 km through the reserve, and Madia Pala Mountain and Kremetartkop hill dominate the landscape.
Lulu’s Camp is situated on the banks of the Mogalakwena River, amid sweeping lawns under established shady trees. It has 5 campsites for tents or small caravans. Just 25km west of Alldays on the Swartwater road (R572), the camp is easily accessible from the tar road.
In conjunction with the De Wildt Wild Cheetah Project, Makulu Makete is a Cheetah Conservation Area, for the relocation of wild cheetahs. Wild cheetahs, confiscated from illegal trappers or removed from farms where they were a problem to stock, are released into the reserve, after spending three months in a special enclosure (called a "boma"), where they are habituated to their new surroundings and the non-threatening presence of human beings.
