South African National Parks (SANParks) is the body responsible for managing South Africa's national parks. SANParks was formed in 1926, and currently manages 20 parks consisting of 3,700,000 hectares (37,000 km2), about 3% of the total area of South Africa.

The best known park is Kruger National Park, which is also the oldest(proclaimed in 1898), and the largest, at nearly 2,000,000 hectares (20,000 km2).

    Southern African Wildlife College

    The mission of Southern African Wildlife College is "to provide natural heritage managers from Africa, in co-operation with stakeholders, with the motivation and relevant skills to manage their areas and associated wildlife populations sustainably and in a culturally accepted manner."

    Training plays a pivotal role in terms of rehabilitating and sustaining wildlife areas. One of the fundamental strategies of the Southern African Wildlife College is to create a new generation of managers who are equipped to deal with the key challenges facing protected area management.
