The Nguni people represent nearly two thirds of South Africa's African population and can be divided into 4 distinct groups:

• Central Nguni (Zulu-speaking)

• Southern Nguni (Xhosa-speaking)
• Swazi (from Swaziland and adjacent areas)
• Ndebele (of Limpopo Province and Mpumalanga)
