29.11.10The largest annual open-air Festive Light event of the Polokwane Municipality will be held on Friday, 03 December 2010. The Executive Mayor, Clr. Freddy Greaver will switch on the Festive Lights at a glittering event to be held at the Flora Park Dam. The event will commence with a series of performances by cultural groups and artists to entertain revelers.
Clr. Greaver will switch on the Festive Lights around 19h00 and this will be followed up by a short display of fireworks which will run for approximately 15 minutes. Pet owners who are residing in and around the Flora Park Dam are advised to provide shelter to their pets during this period so that they should not be disorientated by the fireworks. However, the Municipality will put measures in place to ensure that the fireworks display has minimal impact on the areas in the neighborhood of the Dam.
The event will see multitudes of revelers flocking to the Dam as an annual to witness the lighting traditional event. This is also expected to have economic spin-offs as most hawkers will also be selling their goods and services to the revelers. However, strict street vending systems will be put in place and vendors who wish to trade at the venue on the day are advised to enlist their names with the Municipality.
