The province has to this end, packaged cultural and heritage products to provide tourists with this wealth of experience.
The competitive advantage of Limpopo Province is its location as it is in the far Northern part of South Africa sharing borders with three neighboring Countries, namely Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Hence the Province is also known as the gateway to other African Countries. The Province also shares provincial borders with Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North West provinces. Because of its proximity to other SADC countries, the National Government in collaboration with Limpopo Government developed two main transfrontier parks, namely, Greater Mapungubwe joining Limpopo and Botswana and the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park joining Limpopo Province Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Limpopo’s five Regions are strategically located according to the cultural inhabitants. Capricorn is the central region predominantly occupied by Bapedi People, Waterberg is the Largest region in the province with the majority of people being the Batswana people. Vhembe region in the far north is dominated by vhavenda and Vatsonga people. Limpopo is of the only Provinces in South Africa with more than one cultural group staying together in their original habitat in Harmony. Other ethnic groups include the English and Afrikaner people. English is regarded as a business language but other native languages of the province include, Tshivenda, Sepedi, Xitsonga, Setswana, Isindebele and Afrikaans thus making the province living example of harmony in diversity.
Regions offer travelers a vivid contrast between the Highveld splendour of the Waterberg, Soutspanberg and Magoesbaskloof mountains and the wildlife delights of the Lowveld, including northern reaches of the Kruger National Park, as well as the beautiful and friendly mountain paradise of Sekhukhune. Broad, boundless and beautiful, the ancient land of myths and legends, that is, Limpopo. Mopani region in the Lowveld, is part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. Already, many of the conservation areas bordering on the Kruger National Park have removed their fences and now form part of the Greater Kruger National Park, resulting in huge traversing areas of unspoiled wilderness. What is even more encouraging is that there is harmony between privately owned and state owned game reserves which fosters collaboration between the two.
We have spectacular mountain scenery, which beckons hikers, climbers and bikers while mystic cultural destinations intrigue both local and international tourists. The game viewing is absolutely fantastic and possibly the best in the country hence we are the preferred Eco-tourism destination in Southern Africa.
