02.10.09Polokwane - A group of Limpopo farmers went to Thailand recently to learn the eco-friendly farming techniques of Japanese philosopher Mokichi Akada.
Kyusei Nature Farming encourages farmers to take from the earth only what they can return to it.
The farmers, who belong to the Transvaal Agricultural Union's northern branch (TAU-SA North), studied Kyusei Nature Farming and the use of Effective Micro-organisms (EM) as alternatives to intensive chemical farming, which is harmful to human health and the environment.
"Many farmers in Limpopo province are already making use of this technology with very impressive results," said TAU-SA North chairperson Dries Joubert this week.
He said Kyusei Nature Farming produces safe and nutritious food, is economically beneficial to both the farmer and consumer and is sustainable and easily practised by everyone.
