18.01.10Limpopo leverages on Marula Festival to create the hype and awareness on 2010 FIFA World Cup games.
Polokwane-Phalaborwa will once again be a hive of activity when tourists converge in their droves to Phalaborwa town for the 5th Marula Festival which will take place from the 20th-27th February 2010 at Impala Park Rugby stadium.
The event will be preceded by the Media Launch on the 28th January 2010 at Amarula Lapa just outside Phalaborwa. Various media houses both print and electronic will be invited to the media launch for coverage of the event organised by by Limpopo Tourism and Parks with the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) and stakeholders.
Limpopo province is the traditional home of the Marula tree found predominantly in the sub-tropical parts of the province and our neighbouring countries. This year’s Marula Festival will be used as a draw card for 2010 FIFA World Cup as Limpopo will be hosting four games during the World Cup and will thus be different from all the previous event given the Soccer World Cup alluded to.
To this end, the event organisers are intending to produce more than 8 000 litres of Morula beverage, which can be stored until the soccer World Cup games kick off in the province, for the many visitors who will swarm the province to watch their favourite teams play.
It is against this background that the event will for the first time in its history take place for seven days with a plethora of activities lined up. The activities and the line-up of artists to perform during the festival will be unveiled to media and the public on the day of the launch.
