31.01.11Having been hosted by the South African Tourism Association (SATSA) Limpopo in Hoedspruit on Friday evening, Limpopo Tourism and Parks (LTP) would like to acknowledge the importance of this organisation and its active leadership under Ms. Adri Kruger.
An organisation that does indeed have the interests of tourism at its core and continues to strive for improved services in the industry, under the initiative of the leadership of SATSA Limpopo, a program has been embarked upon to identify individuals who perform exceptionally in various sectors of this all important industry, this individuals will be recognised on a monthly basis with the intention of holding an annual event in the tourism month September to award the industries top performers.
Getting back to Hoedspruit, a top performer in the tourism industry when it comes to visitations offers diverse bushveld attractions that have the ability to accommodate all types of tourists.
Prior to the meeting, SATSA invited the CEO (Mr Rob Tooley) to tour the airport that services this hub, called the Eastgate Airport. It is the busiest in our province and will undergo renovations to improve offered services.
Ideally this airport should have international status, obviously there are challenges in this regard, one of them being the risks that international entries have with regard to organised crime and other unpalatable activities. So it is about the efficiency of controls amongst others, and the Home Affairs willingness to participate in this. We do know that this would have an enormous impact on the industry by having more international visits and direct flights, we agreed with the management of Eastgate that they will submit a proposal in this regard.
As LTP we did appeal for information on statistics, indicating that the more stats we have the better chance we have in convincing Treasury to give us more funds to promote Limpopo.
The meeting was held in the facilities of the Greater Kruger National Park College, an institution that is directly related to this service industry, by training people from being stewards to cur don blue chefs, a place of learning that would definitely assist in ensuring there are skills as the industry expands.
