06.11.11The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) representatives had the experience of the Transfrontier wilderness trail from the 25th to 30th October. They not only had a wilderness experience but also encountered special game viewing moments. Although the distances and topography were challenging, the trails gave them an opportunity to encounter an intimate wild side of these remote areas while the tour enabled them to witness and feel solitude that imbued them with the spirit of bygone pioneers.
Participants began their trip from LTA offices in Polokwane to Ballanoto Information Center in Phalaborwa, where they later departed to Letaba Ranch, a section of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park (GLTP), which is an extension of the Kruger National Park. It is in this park where participants were greeted by a big herd of Buffalos and a few Elephants. The park is historically known for its big 5, African wild dogs, ample plain game and abundant bird life. It was very exciting for participants as tents for the camp were pitched at the banks of the Great Letaba River, where three Elephants were found. On the second day, participants were given the experience of the amazing topography offered by Makuya Park, which is another undiscovered gems of the GLTP. The highlight for many was a lioness was found enjoying her over the Buffalo under a tree along the Luvuvhu River. Everybody wanted to capture this moment. Another catchy moment was when tents for camping were pitched on the sand of Limpopo River banks in the Mapai area in Mozambique.
A maximum of four 4X4 vehicles, each with a maximum of four people, were led by an experienced guide. All vehicles were provided with a hand-held radio to enable participants to communicate easily with each other. Bush lovers and those who enjoy the wilderness were thrilled by this experience and regular stops were made for environmental, historical and cultural interpretations and also for sharing special and photographic experiences. The fourth night participants camped at the old Renamo Military Camp alongside the Shingwedzi River.
In Mozambique participants had a glimpse of several places such as Paque Nacional do Limpopo, the Mozambique section of the GLTFP. The trip proceeded to the unique Sandveld region of this park. Other places visited included Mbaona Kaya Wilderness camp site and the town of Massingir. On the last night, participants were accommodated at Machampane Wilderness Camp, where they were inundated with roars of lions, while leopards and Elephants were roaming freely in the camp. Participants felt that the luxury of decent beds and great food at this four star camping site was a reward for all the days of travelling and wilderness camping. Everybody was grateful for the experience and all were satisfied with what they were exposed to.
This five day breath taking wildlife experience is an authentic, old generation wildlife experience captivated in new modern wheels building on the successes of its predecessors and thus pushing the product to an unrivalled success. In short, the product does not have any equal.
