26.03.10Since the successful bidding of South Africa to host FIFA 2010 World Cup as announced by FIFA President Mr. Josep (Sepp) Blatter in 2004, South Africa has been abuzz with excitement. Subsequent to this, Limpopo Provincial Technical Committee on 2010 was appointed and thus commissioned Limpopo Tourism and Parks (LTP) to oversee all Tourism related functions in the province.
The LTP in its preparation for this spectacular soccer event discovered accommodation as a major challenge given the high volumes of people that will visit Limpopo during the tournament.

In dealing with this challenge, the LTP consulted with various stakeholders in the hospitality industry such as the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) and MATCH (FIFA’s accommodation contractors). When FIFA demanded that all conventional accommodation products and establishments for the World Cup be graded, the focus shifted to any form of accommodation due to massive shortage anticipated for the high volumes of visitors to country.
