07.06.11Limpopo Tourism and Parks (LTP) hosted a candle light memorial in remembrance of those who passed on due to the HIV/AIDS. The event was held at Nwanedi Nature Reserve, President RM Mphephu Hall. The targeted audience included staff members and community members. The inclusion of the community was because most of the LTP Resorts are on communal land while the human resource capital is sourced from the local communities for purposes of a better reach and messaging. It is pleasing to worth noting that the youth presence in this initiative was dominant.
The event was jointly hosted with the Department of Health (DOH), more specifically, the Thendeleki Mobile Clinic under the Thulamela Muncipality. The DOH staff was led by Ms. S.S. Sebubini who gave a detailed and interactive presentation on HIV/AIDS and Anti Tobacco, which was then followed by Voluntary Counseling and testing for HIV/AIDS, Health Screening e.g. Blood Pressure, Cholesterol , Glucose and Body Mass Index.
Ms. Dorcus Busakwe the Occupational Health and Safety Officer of LTP officially opened the meeting and outlined the program of the day, but more specifically on the importance of including the local community on LTP events as they are equally important for eliminating the scourge of HIV/AIDS in our communities.
The event was also graced by the presence of Khosi (Chief) Negumela of the Negumela community, which borders the Nwanedi Nature Reserve.
