Mashovhela Lodge Introduces Venda Arts & Crafts Tour

Mashovhela Lodge, situated in the Soutpansberg Mountains of South Africa has recently introduced a one day Arts & Crafts tour into Venda for guests of the Lodge in conjunction with Madi a Thavha Lodge

The Venda culture is steeped in the spirit world and finds expression in their arts and crafts. Being highly creative people the Venda people produce many fascinating works and many of the craftsmen being well known worldwide.

The best known of these arts and crafts are clay pots distinctively marked with angular designs in graphite silver and ochre. Also of world standards are woodcarvings which range from abstract to practical.

Ingrid Hahn, Operations Director for Mashovhela Lodge says “We have noticed a big demand for people wanting to visit the homes and workshops of the many famous craftsmen of Venda. As these are very scattered, hard to find and in some cases in conjunction with poor roads we have introduced such tours to ease access for our guests”
