22.04.10Mashovhela Lodge, which is situated in the Soutpansberg Mountains and is well known for its excellent pan-African cuisine, has won two categories in the annual Baobab Bush Banquet competition held at Ridgeway Independent School last Saturday night.
Amongst fierce competition and extremely high standards Mashovhela Lodge received two categories, namely; the Best Food & Wine Pairing and Best Waitron / Service Awards.
Jackie Levell, Executive Chef for Mashovhela Lodge says “Competing against top properties was not only tough, but an honour. My team spent a lot of time in menu and table planning, as well as preparation and presentation, not only of the food, but also the table décor”.
“I have always felt that we offer some of the best service to be found in South Africa and I was very pleased for our waitrons to be recognised for their high standards and receiving the Best Waitron / Service Award” Levell added.
The Banquet is a major event in the area, allowing only top and highly selected properties to create and showcase their best gourmet creations, paired with some of South Africa’s finest wines.
Each entrant had to provide a meal, based on a theme for a table of 10 people and the rules stipulate that all food needs to be cooked on an open fire. Mashovhela Lodge’s theme was The Venda Experience and the highlight of their meal was a Springbuck fillet with paptert parcels and bourdelais sauce served with a Du Preez Cabernet Sauvignon.
Guests to the event were randomly placed at the tables of the entrants and asked to dress up, by coincidence the guests of the Mashovhela Lodge table had dressed in traditional Venda dress, and they also one an award: The Best Dressed Table.
One of the guests of the table, Anneke Stroebel said “Mashovhela Lodge spoiled us with excellent food and friendly service”.
