24.02.10Polokwane Municipality is in the process of upgrading the main water reservoir that supplies the City and Seshego. A new R54 Million, 50 ml* (Mega Litres) reservoir is being constructed at the Krugersberg Dam in addition to the two 30 ml reservoir that are currently supplying water to Polokwane and Seshego.
From the 8 February 2010 the Municipality will be erecting new water pipe-lines into the new reservoir and unexpected interruptions in water supply may occur during this period. Work is expected to be complete by the beginning of March 2010.
During the installation of new pipes, pipes that supply these reservoirs with water from the source will have to be closed. In this regard, connection pipes that feed the City of Polokwane with water from the Olifants Sand, Dap Naudé and Ebenhezer Dam will have to be closed so that installation of new pipes can be carried out.
The Municipality does not expect a total shutdown in water supply as the existing two 30 ml will be filled to capacity during construction. This would bring the total capacity of the Krugersberg Reservoirs to a 110 ml once the new reservoir will be complete. This is in line with the City’s growth and development needs.
Residents are urged to use water sparingly to avoid any unforeseeable shortages as a result of these new developments.
*50 ml = 50 Million Litres.
