04.08.09Shosholoza Meyl, the long distance passenger rail service has announced the introduction of its new train route between Johannesburg and Hoedspruit. The new route will started operating since the 16 July 2009.
The launch of the luxury Premier Classe's Johannesburg to Hoedspruit rail service has been touted as the "most cost-effective" way for a family to get to Hoedspruit at only R850 per person one way.
Initially only running once a week, with plans to increase the service to thrice weekly, The service train departs from Park Station on a Thursday evenings and arrives mid-morning on Friday in Hoedspruit where you will be met and with in 20 minutes you will be in a private game reserve. It returns on the Sunday evening, arriving back in Johannesburg on the Monday morning.
The Premier Classe offers guests all the modern amenities in its sophisticated dining/lounge cars that include air-conditioning, plasma screens and DVD players. The conference coach is equipped with a flip-down presentation screen and various conferencing services. The Premier Classe boasts more spacious compartments and lavishly appointed bathrooms.
The train also shows off its award-winning wines (voted Best Wine in 2007 and 2008 by Diners Club International), and impressive cuisine. The compartments are equipped with power sockets that cater for electronic devices to ensure guests can keep in touch with the outside world no matter where they are.
