14.11.08The Glendower Magoebaskloof Birding Festival is only a month away and there are still a few places available for the event. The event will be based at the Magoebaskloof hotel from the 14th to the 16th of November and only a limited number of bookings are taken for the weekend to ensure the group outings don't have more than ten people. If the groups are any bigger, forest birding becomes more challenging than it already is.
This is a great opportunity to tackle one of the most difficult birding habitats with local experts and guides, as well as attend lectures on the special birds of the area. This year, the focus is going to be mainly on birds and trees of the forests with Ornithologists Joe Grosel and Derek Engelbrecht giving presentations on various aspects of forests birds and their ecology.
There will also be lectures from Meyrick Bowker, a Cape Parrot expert, and Mike Amm a local tree expert, together with short informative presentations from some of the community guides about their special birding sites in Limpopo.
All sorts of prizes will be on offer from the sponsor Glendower and their fantastic product will be freely available throughout the weekend for 'tasting'. There will also be great prizes donated by the local Birder Friendly Establishments and businesses up for grabs at the Saturday night quiz evening.
The cost for the event is R650-00 which includes the four fascinating lectures, three guided outings, two great lunches, one spectacular gala dinner and entertaining quiz evening and hopfully a Cape Parrot in a Yellow-wood tree! You can expect to see birds like Black-fronted Bush-Shrike, Cape Parrot, Bat Hawk, Orange Ground Thrush, White-starred Robin, Grey Cuckoo-Shrike and maybe even a Buff-spotted Flufftail!
We will be atlasing on each outing and doing Cape Parrot censuses on the weekend as well, so if these aspects interest you please join us. All proceeds of the event go towards the development of avi-tourism products in the Greater Limpopo Birding Routes. Hope to see you there for a fun-filled event.
