The Woolly Monkeys Of Mystic

At Mystic Monkeys & Feathers Wildlife Park, we have our “Woolly’s” all year round. Our “Woolly’s” are the only two of their kind in South Africa, which makes then extra special. Woolly Monkeys are New World Monkeys and originate from South America.

Our Woolly Monkeys which were imported from Ecuador at the age of 3 months and have been resident at the park for the last 9 months. Pablo and Francesca are quite happy with human interaction from their keepers and enjoy their daily play time.

Our Woolly’s enjoy the benefit of their very own herb garden, which forms an integral part of their diet. Want to steal a Woolly’s heart, offer them some herbs, guaranteed friends for life!

I spent some time with them in preparation for writing this article and found them to be extremely affectionate, gentle and accepting of human affection to the extent of not wanting you to leave Their prehensile tails are an amazing adaptation of nature and they curl this extra “finger” round your finger to ensure that they have a better grip.

I also noticed that when resting they lay their head in the palm of their hand and then curl their tail around their neck, and then nod off for a peaceful afternoon nap.

Once sexually mature, we will be breeding with our two very special monkeys and hopefully in the future we will be able to have our very own troop of “Woolly’s” to brag about.
