Executive Mayor, Freddy Greaver, says they initially wanted to cancel the event upon hearing of Madiba's death, but rather decided to dedicate it to the world icon.
Greaver says this year's "Christmas Lighting Event" will be a memorable one as it's going to take place a few days after Mandela passed on.
Greaver also signed a tribute to Mandela.
The festive season is upon us. This is once again that time of the year when families come together after a long period of work to celebrate the season. This is also the moment during which all people across religious beliefs display a gesture of generosity by giving to loved ones and those in need. We often don’t realise that many people are much worse off than we are and it’s important for them to realise that someone is actually thinking about them at this time of the year. This is a very important time when people should embrace one another across our religious beliefs as a people.
