Blouberg:This reserve covers a wilderness area of almost 100km² on the eastern tip of the Blouberg Mountain situated in the north-western part of Limpopo Province, 120km from Polokwane (Pietersburg).
The difference in topography (848m-1436m) gives rise to a variety of plant communities which on turn house a diverse array of animal life. The mountain divides the reserve in distinctive southern and northern plains, each with its unique climate, soil types and vegetation. The perennial Brak-river and its associated floodplain cuts through the reserve in the south-east.
This small bushveld reserve is located between Mokopane and Polokwane and functions as a breeding ranch for roan antelope and disease-free buffalo.
Blouberg is a 9.300-ha provincial government nature reserve. Conservation and Tourism management fall under the control of the relevant Limpopo provincial government structures.
There are no hiking trails but self-drive game-drives are possible, preferably using a vehicle with a high ground clearance. To access the southern region, a 4x4 is required. Vehicles may not be driven off existing roads. Be aware of your surroundings when alighting from vehicles, as a confrontation with a buffalo or leopard is always a possibility.
The Balule Private Nature Reserve was created ten years ago when a few enterprising farm owners decided to drop the game fences between their farms. This has since grown into a 35.000-ha private nature reserve with the perennial Olifants River flowing for approximately 20 km through the centre of the reserve.
Balule is undergoing continuous expansion as other landowners join the initiative to become incorporated into the Greater Kruger National Park Management Area. The 'Big Five' roam freely in the game reserve.
North of Marble Hall lies Schuinsdraai eco-system that surrounds Flag Boshielo and it covers 9037 hectares of land.
The Schuinsdraai dam provides an ideal environment for the large crocodile population that inhabits the area. Other game that can be spotted at Schuinsdraai Nature Reserve includes kudu, impala, eland, warthog and rare roan antelope.
Stay around the dam and enjoy the presence of beautiful waterbirds. The reserve is a popular destination for anglers and other water recreation.
