Mopani History & Culture

Those in search of history will find many places of archaeological significance with relics of Stone Age man, as well as sites associated with the lives and exploits of the early hunters, traders, explorers, prospectors and settlers.

The Mopani regoin is home to Modjadji the Rain Queen who after three centuries in the area is still surrounded by legend and mystery.

The region is also the meeting place of the vibrant and diverse cultures of the Shangaan, Pedi and Lobedu who to this day live under the time-honoured traditional leadership of local chiefs.
