Wolkberg Cave System

The Wolkberg Mountains have a number of interesting and beautiful dolomite caves. The best- known,Wolkberg Cave, rivals Cango for scenic splendour.
This cave system just outside Potgietersrus is more a cultural experience than a caving expedition. The caves provide a record of human development from the hominid Austrolopithecus africanus to stone age and iron age humans.
It also has great historical significance as it was here that the Boers besieged the people of the Langa and Kekani tribes, led by Chief Makopane, after whom the caves were named. The Arend Dieperink Museum runs tours to the caves but they must be booked at least a week in advance. At time of writing, the caves were closed for maintenance but were due to reopen towards the end of 2000.

A great attraction in the city is the Polokwane Bird and Reptile Park. It is one of the largest municipal reserves in the country and is a show piece of colour and singing. Over 280 bird species can be viewed both indigenous and exotic. Aquariums are a delight and home to snakes and lizards and dark pools showcase an array of crocodiles and water birds. Well developed viewing hides and attractive picnic spots make this a tranquil and restful venue and an 18-hole golf course is an attraction to the keen golfer.
Another colourful and spectacular must see is the Moletjie Bird Sanctuary, also home to many bird species. Highly acclaimed internationally, the centre is applauded for its outstanding work in the protection of the rare Cape Vulture.

A major attraction at Zebula Country Club is our lion and tiger cubs as well as our adult cheetahs. The animals are housed next to the Club House so can be easily seen when you visit us.
Luka and Taran are the first cheetahs that Zebula acquired from the Free State. They are fully grown adults at almost 4 years old. We’ve had them since they were ten days old. Currently they are the stars of the cheetah run, it’s a hundred and thirty meter sprint which combined, takes them about twelve seconds to complete.
Come join us for the cheetah run on Friday and Saturday afternoons at 17:30. Twenty rand gets you a normal ticket whereas fifty rand puts into our new and exclusive VIP stand. You get a better view and free drinks.
