LTA ACTING CEO UNVEILS PLANS TO THE MEDIA

IMPOPO; POLOKWANE: The Acting Chief Executive Officer of Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), Mr. Sello Maleka, will unveil the entity’s plans for the next five months of his tenure to media following the resignation of the former CEO, Ms. Nomasonto Ndlovu, on 30 October 2020.

Key among aspects to be covered in his plans include and not limited to the organizational strategy that hinges on the Provincial Tourism Growth Strategy; implementation of recovery plan to support the tourism industry back on its feet again after the devastation by COVID-19; LTA’s delivery on its mandate; provision of solutions and frustrations of the tourism industry; improvement of tourism business processes and continuity of transforming the sector thereby contributing to the economic growth of the province.

LTA is a schedule 3C entity, which according to PFMA reports to Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) with its programmes and activities being guided by a number of constitutional and legislative mandates. The Acting CEO will also focus on marketing the province’s areas of competitive advantage around the six (6) identified clusters, namely:

  • Golf and Game
  • Hunting and Safari
  • Family and Recreation
  • Special Interest
  • Mega Conservation
  • Meetings Incentives Conferences and Events (MICE)

The Acting CEO, Mr. Sello Maleka, is very upbeat about the resurrection of the tourism sector despite having been the worst and hardest hit by COVID-19. “I am optimistic that tourism will soon be back on its feet again as it has for many years proven to be a very resilient sector. This is a highly reliable sector that has survived many challenges such as economic turmoil in many parts of the world including our country. We will do our utmost to ensure that it continues to contribute massively to the economy of the province and our country at large. I will fortunately not be alone while steering this ship as I have a capable team of men and women with impeccable experience to weather any storm coming our way”.

Maleka further said: “We operate within an industry that has been hit hard by COVID-19 that was the first to close in March 2020 and the last to reopen just a month and half ago. It is this plight that has set us on a path to work on a marketing recovery plan that will assist the industry to get back on its feet as it has, for many years, proven to be a very resilient sector. This is a highly reliable sector that has survived many challenges such as economic turmoil in many parts of the world including our country. We will do our utmost to ensure that it continues to contribute massively to the economy of the province and our country at large. I will fortunately not be alone while steering this ship as I have a capable team of men and women with impeccable experience to weather any storm coming our way”.

In the next few weeks, the Agency will embark on the Festive Campaign this festive season and will also be preparing for the 3rd Limpopo Championship, an international golf tournament in collaboration with Sunshine Tours.
