LIMPOPO PROVINCE, KALAHARI WATERFRONT: The 2022 Provincial Tourism Month launch took place today, at Kalahari Waterfront which is situated at the Nandoni Budeli area in the Vhembe Region of Limpopo Province under the theme “Rethinking Tourism “, with the theme also being promoted by United Nations of World Tourism
Organization (UNWTO).
“This year’s theme is aimed at inspiring insightful discussions within the tourism industry to rethink the way we are doing business, its development and identifying sustainable opportunities for future growth” said Mr. Sello Maleka Acting CEO for
Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA).
World Tourism Day, celebrated each year on 27 September, is the global observance day fostering awareness of tourism's social, cultural, political, and economic value and the contribution that the sector can make towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals. In South Africa, this is a month-long celebration aimed at highlighting the importance of the sector to the South African economy and encourage domestic tourism in line with the Tourism Sector Recovery Plan.
Now that the tourism industry is fully open and functional, it is now time for the sector to do the most important things that we could not have done in the previous two years, its now time to rebuild, rebrand and recover as the tourism sector in the
province and country.
In support of the global theme and in celebration of this important period in our sectors, as a destination we will rally all tourism stakeholder, citizens, and potential tourists to visit and celebrate with us using key industry events and activations.
Working closely with all tourism stakeholder the province has come up with a comprehensive calendar of events which help popularize the theme and raise awareness on the key subjects and objectives.
