LIMPOPO; POLOKWANE: Limpopo Province continues to maximise on events to drive droves of people to the province to contribute to the target of 21 million international arrivals as set by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Limpopo was abuzz over the past two weekends with events such as the Bafana Bafana-Lesotho 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier game on 21 March 2025 that saw the new Peter Mokaba being a sold-out affair and full to the capacity. This and many other sporting events such as Betway Premiership matches, drive numbers of people to the province. The 22nd March 2025, was an eventful day with 2025 Makoro Village Marathon, which is a Comrades Marathon qualifier. This was later in the evening followed by Makoro annual music festival at Polokwane Rugby field.
The weekend of the 28th-30th March was equally eventful with Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino Convention Resort in Burgersfort in partnership with Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) hosting DJ Lamiez featuring several other acts like Sugeon, Sour, Dimanzi HD, etc. On 29th March 2025, Sun Meropa Entertainment World in Polokwane, was the centre of attraction as the facility in partnership with LTA, hosted the famous legend, Linah Ebony Ncgobo to celebrate her 40 years in the creative industry as a musician. The legend was supported by several acts like Amaponi, Yvonne Chakachaka, Candy Tsa Mandebele, Puleng March, Kholeka, Mmatema, Jacob and many others.
Soccer spiced things up with three Betway Premiership games taking place in the three stadia in Polokwane starting with Magesi FC battling it out with Stellenbosch FC on the 28th March 2025 at Seshego stadium, where Magesi FC walked away with three points threshing Stellenbosch FC 1-0. On Sunday the 30th March 2025, Polokwane City FC entertained Richards Bay FC at the old Peter Mokaba stadium where Rise and Shine were too bright to outshine the Natal Rich Boyz by walloping them 3-1. Later in the evening, Matsatsantsa a Pitori, Super Sport United FC, had a tussle for 3 points with The Citizens, Cape Town City FC, at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium where the two settled for a point each with a goalless draw.
Limpopo Tourism Agency wishes to take this moment to commend the people of Limpopo for their warmth as they welcomed droves of people from all parts of the country and beyond over the past two weeks, but also for supporting all the events and activities held in the province. “We are so humbled by the amount of support we have witnessed over the past two eventful weekends. The people of Limpopo are known for their warm reception and we plead for this to continue as this will give us return trips to the province. This coming weekend on Saturday the 5th April, Peter Mokaba precinct will be a hive of activity when the two Soweto giants visit Polokwane with Polokwane City FC playing host to Orlando Pirate FC at the old Peter Mokaba at 15:00, while Kaiser Chiefs FC will host TS Galaxy FC at the new Peter Mokaba stadium at 19:00. We call on the people of Limpopo to come in droves to support these games and other activities as part of celebrating the Easter Season. This is proof that Limpopo is home of football while Polokwane continues to display its capacity to host games of international magnitude. This will also heighten the province’s spots tourism profile with several games coming to the province including those of Motsepe Foundation League and other sporting codes”, said the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LTA, Mr. Moses Ngobeni.
