Limpopo; Polokwane: Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) is set to support the 16 th annual South African National Parks (SANParks) week billed to start from 22 until 28 November 2021 with others ending the programme on the 26 th November 2021. The LTA Board members have been spread and deployed to the three national parks in the province to support the SANParks week.
According to the Acting CEO of SANParks, Luthando Dziba, the programme is aimed at giving all South Africans an opportunity to enter most of the parks managed by SANParks for free except for Boulders section at Table Mountain National Park as well as accommodation and tourist activities.
LTA is determined to support the programme as it will encourage Limpopo citizens to do tourism and travel the parks and many more attractions in the province. The province has just successfully launched its summer campaign to create awareness about destination Limpopo’s product offerings including heritage and culture. The campaign aims to further promote Limpopo as an accessible value-for-money destination for all and for all seasons within and beyond the borders of the province and to position destination Limpopo as a favourable leisure tourism destination of choice and instill a culture of intra-provincial travel.
Limpopo Province optimizes on the competitive advantage of sharing boundaries with other SADC countries. Limpopo’s main competitive advantage comprises two Trans-Frontier Parks, namely, the Greater Mapungubwe Trans-Frontier Park, bordering South Africa and Botswana and the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, bordering South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. This is seen as a niche product that no other province in the country possesses.
The province wealth of wildlife and conservation as well as ecotourism is confirmed by the fact that it is home to home to three national parks, namely the world- renowned Kruger National Park, which is the biggest protected land in the whole of
SADC with approximately 70 percent of the park being in Limpopo. The other two are Mapungubwe National Park in Thabazimbi World Heritage Site as well as and Marakele National Park, where animals including the Big Five roam freely in their natural habitat.
The CEO of LTA, Mr. Moses Ngobeni, encourages the members of the public to be part of this programme by visiting all the three national parks to visit all the parks in the province to see unspoilt wildlife in its natural habitat unlike those caged in zoos.
“We are also calling upon those who have not made decisions on an ideal vacation to feel free to contact our offices for affordable, accessible and incredibly wild experiences like never before. There are also opportunities for those who are on a
shoestring budget in the form of day visits and outings which are very reasonable and ideal for a family outing. As people visit the parks now and other attractions later for their vacation in Limpopo, we urge them to continue observing government
stipulated protocols by always wearing masks, regularly washing their hands with soap, or applying alcohol-based sanitizer to avoid further spread of COVID-19. We further encourage those who have not vaccinated to do that by way of keeping the
possible fourth wave of the pandemic at bay”.
