LIMPOPO; POLOKWANE: Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA)and LEDET are extremely excited to invite you and your media house to be part of the new Tourism Thursdays that the Premier of the Province, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba and MEC of LEDET, Mr. Tshitereke Matibe announced at the launch of Spring Campaign and Tourism Month on the 22nd August 2024 at Fumani Game Lodge.
The campaign, which is aimed at celebrating tourism weekly every Thursday, kicked in on the first Thursday of September 2024 on 5 September 2024 when the province hosted the inaugural Explore Limpopo Tourism Market, an expo under the auspices of Limpopo Provincial Tourism Association at Tzaneen Country Lodge.
World Tourism Day (WTD) is celebrated globally, annually on the 27th of September and in South Africa, September month is declared as “Tourism Month”. In South Africa the celebration becomes a platform to encourage and promote domestic travel as well as promoting awareness of tourism products, offerings and packages. This year’s theme is Tourism and Peace
World Tourism Day is also a call to tourism developers, tourists, and local communities around the world to responsibly manage and enjoy natural resources. This will include the diverse cultures so that it is preserved for future generations. Within this context the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has declared the year 2024 as the year of “Tourism and Peace-30 years of connecting People to Places and Cultures”. This is to encourage the nations globally to peace and encourage tourism in peace.
Tourism Month is celebrated annually in September and provides a heightened month-long focus on the importance of the sector to the South African economy. It features themed activities that are aligned to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) World Tourism Day celebrations.
Tourism Thursdays will ensure that there is tourism activity every week to prevent any lull until the World Tourism Day (WTD) celebration, which is the culmination of the tourism month festivities, which internationally takes place on the 27th September annually. event will be a celebration of our diverse cultural and historical heritage that continues to foster peace in South Africa, making the country a preferred holiday destination.
