LIMPOPO; POLOKWANE: Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) Board in its seating on Wednesday the 21st February 2024, encouraged management of the entity not to relent on their quest to achieve a better audit outcome.
This will be complemented by the meeting between Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) and LTA management supported by the Risk and Audit Committee of the Board to discuss audit related matters for the 2023/24 audit period. The Board further appreciated the standing invitation of the Provincial Treasury’s representative to the audit steering committee as the arrangement will go a long way in fortifying the work of that structure.
Key among resolutions taken in this last meeting for the 2023/24 financial year include the following:
- As the province continues to do well on tourism investment, the entity has a responsibility to influence municipalities within which new projects are established for delivery of access roads and other related infrastructure programmes and amenities for these investment projects to be sustainable.
- LTA should organize a media workshop on the mandate of the entity to help obviate role confusion between LTA and Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET).
- The 2022 Media Colloquium resolutions should find expression in the LTA’s operations.
- Policy on social/digital media influencers should be finalized to enhance marketing efforts of the agency and to boost numbers on all its social media platforms given low numbers on these platforms.
- On support to persons living with disabilities, the board has implored on management to reach out in any manner possible to this sector of our populace to ensure that they are accordingly assisted to play a meaningful role in the economic value chain of the province.
The Board Chairperson, Mr. Andrew Dipela, reiterated the importance of management to cooperate with other key stakeholders like Provincial Treasury and AGSA to be able to achieve better and improved performance outcomes. “We are confident we will do better this year as the entity will not allow any funds meant for service delivery to be returned to Treasury. Our management has committed to spending all the budget and we are grateful as this will boost the economy of the province thereby making a dent on the triple challenges facing our country and province. We will continue to provide guidance and support to our management for them to achieve what we expect them to, but we will also perform our fiduciary and oversight responsibility”, said Dipela.
