LTA COLLABORATES WITH SAPA YOPA MOTORCYCLE CLUB TO HOST THE 15TH EDITION OF THE BIKERS RALLY

Limpopo Province; Polokwane: Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) collaborated with the Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club to stage the 15th edition of the annual Sapa Yopa Rally that took place at Polokwane show ground from the 30th November to 3rd December 2023. The unique motorcycle club that brings bikers of all races, social standing, and cultures together to Limpopo Province for fun filled activities.

The Sapa Yopa is amongst the top motorcycle clubs in the Southern Hemisphere, boasting a wide cultural diversity from all over Africa and the world. It is the first club to have more than forty (40) female bikers. A significant number of bikers attends this event annually. The 2023 rally attracted over 1200 bikers over the past three days. The rally has become a significant driver of both domestic and international tourists annually since it attracts both local and international visitors.

The Events Manager of Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club, Mr. Mokobo Mahapa was very excited about the success of the event despite a doubtful start without budget. He said, “We are grateful the event was a resounding success although we worked from zero budget. We are, however, grateful to have partnered with stakeholders like Limpopo Tourism Agency as that brought some relief to us. Our club is growing in bounds as we now have over 400 members with over forty (40) female riders making it the biggest black motorcycle club in Africa. Exciting is that there were bikers from other SADC countries such as Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Zambia. The past three days from the 30th November until today the 3rd December 2023, have been so exciting with over 1200 bikers descending to Polokwane for the annual rally. Over fifty (50) stalls were sold to entrepreneurs who sold various items for both revelers and bikers. We are confident this will contribute to the economy of the city”.

LTA has previously supported previous events and continues to do so because of the tourism element the event possesses. The purpose for LTA’s partnership with Sapa Yopa is, to facilitate and build partnerships between public and private sectors thereby fostering tourism marketing and transformation in the tourism industry; to facilitate tourism information dissemination at the Rally; to drive LTA brand equity through the Sapa Yopa Rally; and to leverage on the Sapa Yopa Rally to drive the Summer Campaign.

The CEO of LTA, Mr. Moses Ngobeni, said, “We are grateful to collaborate with Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club, which is a mass event bringing thousands of people to the province. Polokwane was a hive of activity the past weekend with festivities building up to the Sapa Yopa Rally that took place on Saturday the 2nd December 2023. The rally helps boost the economy in the province as all the tourism facilities in Polokwane and the surroundings

got fully booked. The entire tourism value chain and other sub-sectors such as the hospitality, services (filling stations) and accommodation stand to benefit every time a rally of this magnitude comes to our shores. We really appreciate this partnership as the event drives more people to our province with hope that it will inject the economy of the province”.
