LTA CONGRATULATES AMAJITA AND SOUTH AFRICAN ATHLETICS TEAM FOR HOISTING
THE SOUTH AFRICAN FLAG HIGH ON THE SPORTING FRONT

LIMPOPO; POLOKWANE: Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) wishes to congratulate the South
African under 20 team, Amajita for being crowned the African Champions during their tussle
for the trophy against the Moroccan under 20 team, Young Lions as they are affectionately
known.

The journey was not easy as the team, under the stewardship Coach Raymond Mdaka, was
under the so-called group of death that included, Tanzania, Sierra Lione, Zambia and Egypt.
After outsmarting all their opponents in the group stage, Amajita carried on to the quarter
finals to humble the Democratic Republic of Congo with a 1-0 win. For them to march to
the finals, they beat Nigeria by 1-0 in the semi-final. This team resembled their predecessors
who reached the final in 1997 when they faced Morocco, who were the hosts, and lost the
tournament to them at the time. This, to the South Africans, is seen as sweet revenge with
Morocco beaten in front of the home fans. LTA hails the team for making South Africa proud.

On the athletics front, team SA’s Men’s 4x100m relay squad lit up the track with a blazing
37.61s to record the fastest time in the world this year. The South African team on 4x400m
gave a great performance and did not disappoint as they won a gold during the World
Athletics Championships in China.

Last month in Botswana, Simbine ran 9.90 seconds, becoming the first athlete in history to
run under 10 seconds in the 100m for 11 seasons in a row. This makes him the fastest person
on earth as he has broken the record that was set by Usain Bolt, who has now retired from
athletics.

On the other hand, the South African team shattered the national record in the Women’s
4x400m at the 2025 Athletics Grand Prix 1 giving. This no doubt gives South Africans hope
and to this end, LTA congratulates the athletes and Athletics Soth Africa for putting shoulder
to the wheel to ensure these record-breaking performances.
