FREE STATE PROVINCE; BLOEMFONTEIN: Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) wishes to congratulate Magesi FC on their win of the 2024 Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday the 23rd November 2024 at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein. This happened just two days after LTA invited the club for a Tourism Thursday activity that included lunch to celebrate and congratulate them for reaching the finals of the competition. This was also to create awareness about the importance of sports tourism and its role on the economy of the province.
The journey started at Orlando Stadium when Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, were humbled to a 3-2 loss to Magesi FC. The club continues to inspire all in the province and the entire country thus confirming that their win over the giants was not out of luck but commitment and determination of the team to outperform their opponents. The next in line were TS Galaxy FC 1-0 in their own backyard and recently Richards Bay FC, who were also threshed 1-0 in front of their home supporters. The stunner was the cup final that Magesi FC won against Mamelodi Sundowns FC at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein yesterday, the 23rd November 2024. Interestingly the boys were relaxed and felt they had nothing to lose as they were the underdogs, who were not much spoken about and, who no one gave a chance.
Having a competitive team of the calibre of Magesi FC in the elite league from Limpopo Province, will go a long way in elevating the sports tourism profile of the province and most importantly contribute positively to domestic tourism figures, thus boosting the economy of the province. This will also help create much needed jobs, particularly during the Betway Premiership and cup competition matches that are brought to the province because of their presence in the elite league.
During the Tourism Thursday activity on 21 November 2024, where LTA invited the team to celebrate and motivate before the much-anticipated cup final, the LTA Board Chairperson, Mr. Andrew Dipela, highlighted the immense benefits of sports tourism indicating how it brings communities together and boosts local economy. “This will also heighten the sports tourism profile of the province and put Limpopo on the world map as a hub for both sports and leisure. In May, we congratulated you after gaining promotion into the elite soccer league in the country. We are doing the same today, but this time to congratulate you for reaching the finals of the 2024 Carling Black Label Cup”, said LTA Board Chairperson, Mr. Andrew Dipela.
Dipela further advised players and the coach, Mr. Clinton Larsen not to be under any pressure as their opponents, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, should be the ones to be stressed and under pressure with the credibility they stand to lose for being beaten by Betway Premiership rookies like Magesi FC.
As he concluded, Dipela said, “We will be ready to receive you with the trophy from Bloemfontein. If winning this cup final is anything to go by, it will no longer be us receiving and parading you as champions, but the provincial leadership and government will take over from where we shall have left off”.
The President of the Club, Dr. Solly Makhubela, thanked the leadership of LTA to always be there to show support. He said, We really appreciate the amount of support from LTA and the motivation you have given us as a club is taken very seriously and we hope to bring the cup home to Moletji as the Kgoshi Kgabo Moloto III is waiting for it”, said Makhubela.
The agency sent a delegation of two, that is, Board Member, Mr. William Kovani, and its Head of Corporate Communications & PR, Mr. Mike Tauatsoala, to this cup final as a gesture of its support to Magesi FC. The club has displayed consistent performance from the commencement of the season proving to be the elite league material that will stay in the league and not pay visit to Betway Premiership.
