Mapungubwe Arts Festival is upon us again. Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) in collaboration with other stakeholders including Polokwane Municipality, LTA, Polokwane Municipality, National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and other Provincial Departments presents 2023 instalment of Mapungubwe Arts Festival that will take place commencing with a parade (street carnival) from the 8th December until the 16th December 2023. The Department (DASC) and partners thus wish to invite all and sundry to rally behind this festival as part of celebrating the melting pot of heritage and culture.
On the 5th December 2023, the MEC of DSAC, Ms. Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana launched the event to the media at Sun Meropa Casino in Polokwane. Addressing a She promised to take the event to another level despite the late start of processes to prepare for this flagship event of the province. The people of South Africa will be expected to support the festival by attending all the activities that will be taking place in Polokwane including all the five districts of the province where build-up events took place. The festivities will go well into new year until March 2024.
Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) on the other hand collaborated with the Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club to stage the 15th edition of the annual Sapa Yopa Rally that took place at Polokwane show ground from the 30th November to 3rd December 2023. The unique motorcycle club that brings bikers of all races, social standing, and cultures together to Limpopo Province for fun filled activities.
The CEO of LTA, Mr. Moses Ngobeni, said, “We are grateful to collaborate with for hosting these mass events in the province. This will help boost the economy of the province and we are confident this will help boost the economy of the province as all the tourism facilities in Polokwane and the surroundings get fully booked during these events. Polokwane was a hive of activity during the weekend of the SAPA YOPA Rally was from 30 November to 3 December 2023 with motorcyclists from various part of the country and beyond. The entire tourism value chain and other sub-sectors such as the hospitality, services (filling stations) and accommodation stand to benefit every time a rally of this magnitude comes to our shores. We really appreciate this partnership as the event drives more people to our province and we hope events like these will inject the economy of the province. We continue to plead with the peace-loving people of Limpopo to open their arms to give visitors a warm welcome. We are looking forward to a fun-filled incident free festive season”.
