MEC OF LEDET INVITES SOUTH AFRICA TO LIMPOPO AS HE LAUNCHES 2024 SUMMER CAMPAIGN

LIMPOPO: BURGERSFORT – Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) will kick off its summer campaign as an initiative to promote and drive domestic tourism during this festive season. This happened when the MEC of Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Mr. Tshitereke Matibe, launched the Summer Campaign at a glittering event with the media at Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino Convention Resort in Burgersfort last night, the 30th October 2024. Matibe called on South Africa to come to Limpopo this festive season as he also introduced a new concept ‘Limpopo ka Dezemba’ that denotes uniqueness of Limpopo in summer, particularly in December.

The campaign is an attempt to increase Limpopo’s domestic tourist numbers to the province. Summer Campaign aims at showcasing Limpopo as a suitable holiday destination for this festive season. The emphasis will be on the “More to Enjoy” pay-offline as a way of emphasizing diverse destination offerings. The plan is aimed at local travelers and especially the visiting friends and relatives (VFR’s) from neighbouring provinces such as Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga who often come to Limpopo during this period. It will be supported by activations provincially through other partners.

The objectives of this initiative are mainly to create awareness about destination Limpopo’s product offerings including heritage and culture; promote Limpopo as an accessible value-for-money destination for all and for all seasons within and beyond the borders of the province; and to position destination Limpopo as a favourable leisure tourism destination of choice and instill a culture of intra-provincial travel.

The CEO of LTA, Mr. Moses Ngobeni, who also facilitated the programme said, “This is for us an excellent opportunity for us as a province to invite South Africa to come to Limpopo, especially our neighbours in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North West provinces to come to our province this summer with so much on offer. We encourage Limpopo citizens, particularly those who are visiting friends and relatives (VFR’s) to visit a myriad of attractions in our Province thereby growing tourism and contributing to economic growth of the province”.

The launch takes place exactly a month since the celebration of the provincial chapter of World Tourism Day with the Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, at Mount Azimbo Lodge in Makhado Municipality. The international chapter of the World Tourism Day was celebrated in India while South Africa celebrated the day in the Northern Cape at a small town of Carnarvon, where the entire tourism family and stakeholders gathered to celebrate the day but also used the celebration as an opportunity to launch Astro Tourism Strategy of the country.

As he launched the Summer Campaign, the MEC of LEDET, Mr. Tshitereke Matibe, said, “We wish to commend Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) for its efforts and innovation to capture scores of travellers to the province during this period. The calendar of activities compiled in partnership with the private sector for our summer campaign that includes the festive season, proves beyond reasonable doubt that our “Limpopo ka Dezemba Campaign” is set to immerse our travellers beyond expectations. This will timeously capture more prospective holiday makers to Limpopo this summer. I am particularly encouraged by the fact that Limpopo citizens have come of age as they are beginning to plan for holidays locally instead of going out of the province given so much that our destination has on offer”.

Matibe further said, “This comes against the backdrop of the agency having taken a strategic retreat at Kone Village Boutique Lodge to plan for the next five years of the 7th administration. The aim of today’s event is to showcase Limpopo as a preferred holiday destination, but most importantly to grow the province’s market share of domestic travellers, thereby making a dent on the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality.

“I wish to take this opportunity to officially launch the 2024 Summer Campaign alongside ‘Limpopo ka Dezemba’. I urge people to use this holiday season to visit many offerings the province has at its disposal to reenergize and recharge their bodies and minds to return to their work reinvigorated and productive. This campaign commences now, that is, October 2024 to February 2025 when we get into Marula festival mood. The campaign message will this year again be #MoreToEnjoyThisSummer and #GoLimpopo and #LimpopoReimagined as we continue with Tourism Thursdays to encourage the people in our province to do tourism”.

As he concluded, Matibe said, “We are a destination that encourages you to explore and discover new possibilities and experiences like no other, leaving you with lasting memories, and an insatiable desire and curiosity to return, to discover more and ultimately, to live a little more. Situated between the beating heart of South Africa and our neighbouring SADC nations, igniting the spirit of wonderment and discovery within you is never too far away”.

Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality was represented by Cllr. Morosha Mabelane who represented the Mayor by welcoming the guests but also used that opportunity to encourage people to visit his municipality this summer.
