Women are the most important component of our society as mothers of the nation. On this day in 1956, over 20 000 women bravely marched to the Union Building in Pretoria to protest against the proposed amendments to the apartheid Urban Areas Act.
It is of significance to note that 70% of the tourism industry is made up of women. Their involvement and contribution in economic activities is a manifestation of the high place they hold in society. There is no doubt that their contribution to various sectors of the economy has led to growth and sustainable livelihoods in our society.
We send a message to all women and those in the Tourism industry in particular to continue the fight against poverty and economic exclusion.
Happy Women’s Day to all women of South Africa and Limpopo in particular.
Mr Andrew Dipela
Limpopo Tourism Agency Board Chairperson
