PRO-AM A RESOUNDING SUCCESS BEFORE 6TH LIMPOPO CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS

Limpopo; Polokwane: Euphoria Golf and Lifestyle Estate was a hive of activity with Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) hosting a one-day Pro-Am golf as a precursor to the four-day long Limpopo Championship in partnership with Sunshine Tour. The Pro-Am came just two days before the tee off of the 6th Limpopo Championship on the 2nd April 2024.

The agency is excited and believes that the success of this one-day event that professionals used as a practice session, presupposes the success of the of the much-anticipated Limpopo Championship which is in sixth edition this year. “There has been a lot of interest in this year’s edition of the tournament and the professionals coming to participate in this year’s edition of Limpopo Championship which promises to be the best Limpopo has aver hosted with 144 professional golfers battling it out for a R2 million prize money. We are very excited as these professionals have been registered in their order of merit given their performance in their respective tournaments they participated in, said the CEO of Limpopo Tourism Agency, Mr. Moses Ngobeni.” Other names among those participating in this championship include the young defending champion, Ryan van Velzen, who returns to the same course where he dramatically won the championship in 2023. Important to note is that the MEC of Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Mr. Rodgers Monama, will tee off at this one-day golf event. As he presented the awards at the dinner, the MEC of Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Mr. Rodgers Monama said, “We have so far achieved some milestones to be proud of and these include contribution to the Premier’s Bursary Fund, the introduction of Limpopo Youth Championship last year, the introduction of Limpopo Women Championship this year and the caddies’ workshop. This is the step in the right direction, and we are confident this sporting code will continue to grow from this partnership. Golf and Game, as components within the Sport and Wildlife Cluster are a niche product identified by Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) as one of the key drivers of the provincial economy. This cluster boosts tourism and increases arrivals into the province.” Monama further said, “I take this Pro-Am today as not just an ordinary golf day as some amateurs today earned points that will qualify them certain handicaps to move towards some level of professionalism in this game. As he concluded, he said, “LTA in collaboration with the estates in the province created the golf route, which comprises Elements Private Golf Reserve, Zebula Golf Estate & Spa, Koro Creek Golf Estate, Euphoria Golf Lifestyle Estate and Hans Merensky Estate & Spa and Legends Golf Estate, which I heard is making a comeback this year after several years of dysfunctionality. The Legend Golf Estate is the home of the extreme 19th hole only found in Limpopo.” Another professional golfer who participated in the Pro-Am on the day was Robson Chinhoi, who recently claimed his maiden victory at the 2023 Zanaco Masters, hosted in Lusaka Golf Club in Zambia. on the Sunshine Tour which gives an opportunity for amateurs to interact with professionals. The winning team on the day was the LTA one led by Sean Bradley as a professional with Jan-Louis Venter, Anthon Venter and Barend Walfaardt. Interestingly, the twenty-seven (27) golfers preprofessional golfers who participated in this one-day golf event used this as am opportunity to practice for the main event, Limpopo Championship, which commences on 4 April 2024.
