THE SIXTH LIMPOPO CHAMPIONSHIP PROCUCES A NEW CHAMPION

Limpopo; Mookgophong: The 6th edition of Limpopo Championship that officially commenced on Thursday the 4th April 2024, promised to deliver the best given the over 144 professionals golfers entering to take part in this huge Limpopo-based tournament. The tournament, which is sanctioned by Sunshine Tour, was concluded this afternoon at Euphoria Golf and Life style Estate, which was a hive of activity with golfers battling it out for the prize money of R2 000 000.

In this battle, Deon Germishuys claimed his second Sunshine Tour title by winning the Limpopo Championship by two strokes at the Euphoria Golf and Lifestyle Estate today. Germishuys signed for a final round of 66 to win on 22 under par and add to his victory in the 2022 Sishen Classic.

It is interesting to note that at first Jacques Blaauw led by one stroke over the winner, Germishuys, going into the final round but finished second on 20 under par with a closing 69.

On the other hand, Jacques Kruyswijk (66) and Dylan Mostert (66) shared third place on 17 under par. Germishuys looked relieved when he said, “I don’t know where to start. Jacques played great golf for the first three days and even today in the final round.”

Blaauw started well with a birdie at first while Germishuys made a bogey as early as the second hole. He unfortunately lost it along the way while Germishuys found his form on the greens. He played so well that he birdied the third and then made his charge with four straight birdies from the sixth hole.

Blaauw made four birdies on the back nine, but also two bogeys. Kruyswijk came with his own charge of five birdies in six holes from the ninth. But Germishuys made two birdies of his own on the back nine that proved enough to secure him the victory. He made it look so easy to win and LTA is grateful to witness growth of the tournament from strength to strength. The CEO of LTA, Mr. Moses Ngobeni said. “We are happy with the number partners who made this tournament a success as we could not have succeeded alone.”
